AZ LEARNS Training Modules

ADE PowerPoint on the AZ LEARNS Grades Model

TUSD PowerPoint on the AZ LEARNS Grades Model

These modules explain how AZ LEARNS school labels are calculated (Legacy Model Only). We provide specific examples to understand the data and provide you with estimated future projections, given your current students. The examples in these modules don't have student-specific information, but TUSD teachers and principals will have access to their students' specific information after they login to TUSDStats.

Each module takes 2-5 minutes to complete. Some sections require you to click NEXT to view the next page; others play a "movie." In both cases, you have control to view the previous or next slide, thus giving you full control of the pace.
Note: These modules have been modified to reflect the new 2009 AZ Learns Calculations - http://www.azed.gov/azlearns/09_2_23_AZ_LEARNS_Changes1.pdf.

Module 1: AZ LEARNS Introduction - How are the points calculated?
Given a school's Status, Growth, MAP, ELL and Z-Score, this introductory module explains the Point Scale use to determine a school label.
At the end of this module, there's a resource page that provides links to the various ADE and TUSDStats public web pages pertinent to the points illustrated in the five modules.
Module 2: AZ LEARNS Status and Growth Points
This module explains and shows how a school's Status and Growth points are calculated.
Module 3: AZ LEARNS MAP and ELL Points
This module explains the concepts of MAP and ELL points.
AZ LEARNS: Z-Score CalculationsModule 4: AZ LEARNS Z-Scores
In addition to the points described above, Z-Scores separate schools from Performing Plus, Highly Performing and Excelling. TUSDStats provides a Z-Score projection for schools, given current students' AIMS scores from last year. This module explains the Z-Score for each school by subject and grade, up to student-level data.
AZ LEARNS: Status and Growth Points ProjectionsModule 5: AZ LEARNS Status & Growth Points Projections
TUSDStats provides a projection for this year's status and growth points for each subject and grade. These projections are taken further and then used to calculate one year's growth for each student. This module explains the AZ LEARNS projections page, up to student-level data.
